This is an entry bench that makes a strong statement. Made from mahogany in the Greene & Greene style, this entry bench with storage is sturdy enough to sit on and features ample storage for blankets, shoes, coats, or whatever stuff you might want to shove in there. Thanks to the wide panels, Domino joinery, and one-coat finish, we were able to knock this project out in five days.
Special thanks to Austin Hardwoods for supplying the lumber for this project.

Beautimous! Sweet how much visual interest in a simply described design: rails tennoned into legs, stiles and panels into grooves.

Mark, I really appreciate and benefit from the projects and knowledge you share. I know you have mentioned where to find the beefy router bit you use to shape the curved legs. However, I can’t find the information you have provided in the past. Would you please share again?

Just to say how generous of you to gift this heirloom piece to your fans. Kind of like the beatles giving us a free single back in the day. I never build from plans just an old guy that started before the internet changed everything.Anyway thanks I miss wood talk

Thanks for the great plans! Note there is a minor typo in the cut list – Part “K” (side lower rail) is listed as 6 11/16″ in the cut list (page 2), but is a more sensible 2 7/8″ in the side assembly view (page 9). Assuming that latter height is correct, as the former seems way out of proportion with the other rails?

In the video, I think you used Rockler Torsion Hinges. Did you mortise those into the back rail so that the lid sits flush? Thanks!

No. They are not intended for mortising.

How does the Rudio Mahogany compare to the general finishes orange and medium brown mixture? It looks similar on video, but the camera can lie. I Love the color of the GF mixture. Could you apply the Rubio pure over top a dye stained piece for the best of both color and sheen from the Rubio?

I’d say it’s pretty darn close. The Rubio might be a little more red. I think you can apply Rubio over a dye as long as it’s truly just a dye. Though I’m not sure if the buffing process is going to have any weird results. Keep in mind that GF dyes are not just pure dye. They usually have a little binder in there which could interfere with Rubio’s binding to the fibers.

Marc, not sure why you didn’t reply to this…where does the 6 11/16 come from? must be an error. Please confirm..Thanks!

Looks like it is an error. I didn’t reply because I didn’t see this comment. We get a lot of comments and it’s hard to respond to them all.
